Before we dive into how to use your MailUp account, just a few words about some terms that you will find over and over both in the documentation and in the MailUp admin console.

  • LIST
The work environment made up of contacts, messages, statistics, Groups (see Groups), settings (header, footer, etc.), filters, etc. Therefore, a List is not just a list of contacts. A MailUp account can include multiple Lists.

  • GROUP
A subset of a contact list. Any user can belong to different groups at the same time (similar to "Categories" in MS Outlook). A group can be created or deleted at any time. A group can also be deleted by removing the list that it belongs to. During an import, you can import contacts in one or more groups. If a contact already belonged to other groups, he will be added to the new groups on top of the existing ones unless the "REPLACE GROUP" feature is used.

  • OPT IN
All subscribed contacts who have opted in. They appear as "enabled" in their profile. Their status can be manually changed.

  • OPT OUT
All unsubscribed contacts who have opted out. They appear as "disabled" in their profile. Their status can be manually changed.

  • PENDING
All pending contacts. These are contacts who have requested to receive newsletters from you (from one or more lists), have received a confirmation request message, but have not yet confirmed their subscription by clicking on the link in the message. This message is sent because MailUp uses a double opt-in subscription method, which is required by consumer privacy regulations in most countries.

  • FILTERS
You can use any of the custom data fields that are being used within a list to obtain a more targeted set of contacts. Groups and Filters can be used together to obtain targeted sets of subscribers. You can then move a list of contacts generated from a combination of Filters in a new group.

  • AUTOPROFILE
This refers to the process of letting recipients provide more information about themselves. An autoprofile form is a form that you can create in MailUp and that will allow the recipient to update their profile, adding data (e.g. mobile phone number to receive SMS alerts) and updating existing data. For more information on the Autoprofile feature, please see the MailUp Knowledge Base.
